When Should Someone Look Into Water Damage Repair?

It’s commonly believed that the occasional leak in heavy rains isn’t a big deal, so it usually goes ignored, but at what point should someone make a call to a business that does water damage repair? Here are a few signs that indicate it’s time to pick up the phone:

Everyone Can Smell a Musty Odor

Just about everyone has had the experience of walking into a house or an apartment and having that wave of warm, stale moisture hit them. That’s usually followed by a strange, overwhelmingly musty odor that only reinforces that terrible feeling that if they hang around too long, they’relikely to get sick.

As unpleasant as it is to spend just a few minutes in a place like that, it’s far worse to have to live there and deal with that odor day in and day out. If someone finds themselves having to brave that smell every time they come home from work, then it’s time to face the fact that there must be water damage in their home and make a call to a business that can repair the damage.

There’s Mold Growing

The only thing worse than smelling a musty odor that might mean that there’s mold growing in a home is to see it in all of its glory, peeking out from the corners of floors and walls.

Mold tends to grow in dark, damp, and warm places and can start to form in as little as one day after water has seeped into someone’s house. If a person has experienced heavy rainfall and believes that some leaks might have occurred, it’s a good idea to break out the flashlights and take a look around every few days to have a look for it. If mold is found, then it’s best to call in someone for water damage repair.

The Paint on the Walls is Bubbling

This usually does start people panicking, and for good reason. Seeing bubbling in the paint is a sure sign that something’s wrong. The main reason why paint will start bubbling on walls is because of rainwater making its way into the house and down the walls. It has to go somewhere, and that means that the paint will expand with the water which is what creates the bubbles.

When anyone sees this happening, don’t stop to consider if it’s something that might not be a big deal. Paint bubbles mean that water can also find its way between the walls and could be building up on the joists, which can cause major problems. If water is finding its way down the walls, then it’s also likely building up in the ceiling, as well, and that can lead to its collapse.

So, if any of these things are found in at home, don’t wait it out, and realize that all of the above can be very harmful to one’s health. Call someone in right away to affect water damage repair. Many companies that provide this service will also offer mold remediation, as well.
